Preventative Care

Welcome to Riverside Dental Care in New York City

Our mission at Riverside Dental Care is to work as a team to help you and your family maintain perfect dental health. We don’t think that’s too ambitious because we know how to help you achieve this goal. The same way we work together within the office, we will work with you and each member of your family to educate all of you on caring for your teeth. In this way, we can help you prevent problems that could have the potential to permanently damage your dental health.

Our Special Recall Program

We know that life can get very busy, especially in a city like New York. That’s why we encourage every patient to schedule their next preventative care visit at the time of the current visit. Then when the time for that appointment arrives, we will send reminders so there’s no chance of missing the appointment.

It’s just too easy to put off that preventative care if you don’t have a little encouragement from your team. But every time you put off a preventative visit, you could be allowing a problem in your teeth or mouth to advance to the point that it could cost you a lot of money to treat. Preventative care is about preventing problems, pain and cost.

The Benefits of Regular Preventative Care

Preventative care visits twice a year have the ability to truly enhance your dental health. Here are some of the reasons that’s true:
  • Little cavities can be spotted while they are still little. Fixing cavities while they are small costs less, takes less time and requires simpler treatment. A small cavity may not require any anesthetic for you to stay comfortable throughout your treatment. And it won’t have a chance to become a big cavity or worse yet, a reason to need root canal therapy.
  • For our teenaged patients, seeing you twice a year means that we can spot problems or infections forming around wisdom teeth as soon as they show up.
  • If you start grinding your teeth at night, you won’t have the chance to create wear and tear on your teeth because we’ll spot the damage and help you get a night guard to prevent more harm.
  • Many kinds of damage such as cavities, cracks or damaged dental work which needs replacement may not be visible to you. We have little mirrors and the intraoral camera that helps us show you what is happening in every corner of your mouth.
  • Professional cleanings keep tartar from accumulating on your teeth. Removing it at regular intervals is a vital step in protecting your teeth from decay.
  • Your hygienist will also polish away superficial stains, keeping your smile brighter.
  • This is a chance to ask questions about enhancements to your smile. Do you want a whiter smile? Straighter teeth? Discuss these issues with your hygienist during your preventative care visits.
  • Our hygienists are dedicated to your education. They’ll know if you’re brushing properly and long enough. They will also know if you’re flossing. If they see a way for you to improve your at-home care procedure, they will educate you on why and how you can improve it.
That’s a lot of benefit associated with two simple preventative care visits each year. We intend to protect your dental health during these visits and provide all the value possible each time we see you.

Wouldn’t it be great if you and your family never had a major or expensive dental problem because your preventative care was perfect? That’s what we’re going for. Working together with other members of the Riverside Dental Care team and with you and your family, we feel we can eliminate gum disease and the future need for dental work like fillings, crowns, root canal therapy and more for your entire lifetime. Yes, it’s an ambitious goal—let’s see how close to it we can get. It all starts with maintaining that preventative care schedule.

Here’s some more information on our preventative services.

  • Dental Cleanings

When you come to Riverside Dental Care for a cleaning, our hygienists will scrape and polish away the tartar from every corner of your teeth. They will use mirrors to check the back corners of your mouth to ensure they’ve cleaned every surface. They will check your gums for any signs of puffiness or redness that would reveal the start of gum disease. They will polish every surface to remove stains and leave you with that smooth, sparkling feeling.

At the same time, they will be checking you over for any signs of oral cancer. You may not notice it being done, but it happens every visit. If you have notified us of any changes in your medical history, they will note this in your records as well.

After your hygienist has had a chance to look at the condition of your teeth, she may explain how you can care for your teeth better at home to prevent any need for more expensive dental treatment. She might recommend a different type of toothbrush or other product to you.

  • Examinations

Regular examinations by your dentist are essential to reveal any treatment needed to preserve your teeth. These are done by Dr. Silivria or one of her associates. Every filling is checked for integrity. Every tooth is examined for cracks or signs of decay. Gums are examined for signs of gum disease or other problems, such as recession. Wisdom teeth or the gums covering them are examined to ensure that all is well.

Recommendations will be made at this time on treatment that might be needed for current problems, to prevent future problems or to enhance the beauty of your smile. Each time we make a recommendation, we will treat you just like we would treat our own family. We will help you protect your health and assist you in any goals you might have for your smile, such as having a brighter or more even smile.

  • X-rays

When it’s time for x-rays, we will take digital images of your teeth and the surrounding structures. X-rays are essential tools that enable us to detect problems between teeth, inside teeth or below the gums before they can get serious. And with digital x-rays, it’s so easy to keep your records forever, which enables us to compare your current x-rays with past ones.

  • Fluoride Treatment

For our young patients or older patients who might be particularly prone to decay, fluoride treatments can make a considerable difference. Research has proven that fluoride treatments reduce the number of cavities. That makes fluoride treatment an excellent, money-saving investment for those patients who might be expected to develop tooth decay.

  • Our Intraoral Camera

This handy camera that fits easily inside your mouth is a great tool for helping you see what treatment or enhancements you might benefit from. We can actually show you that a metal filling in the back of your mouth is breaking down, or display a cracked tooth on a screen in the treatment room so you can see it. This is one way you know that our recommendations are based on honest examination of your teeth. You’ll see what we see.

From all over the Upper West Side, patients come to see Dr. Angelica Silivria for her calm, caring manner and excellence of care. Dr. Silivria is fluent in Russian so she can help more members of the New York community.

The staff at Riverside Dental Care work together to create a pleasant, familial atmosphere so every patient feels welcome. We invite you to visit Riverside Dental Care for your next appointment.
